Thought I'd post an update here about the Omni...

Re-opened on March 1st. The beach front restaurant - Piña Colada - re-opening around now.

Cindy, Leticia Rosado, the very helpful Chief Concierge at the Omni sent me this photo (taken in December) on Friday. However, I think Bill's photos are more revealing.

In short, I would be very confident that the Omni will be operating normally well before April.

The Omni got hit hard. We were at the Royal Mayan next door and arrived home on Jan. 14th. Workers are all over the place at the Omni. I have photos of the Omni. See our vacation pics here.

I feel confident the Omni will be open in a couple of months. The Fiesta Americana Condesa says it'll open on Feb. 15th. See their pics here. All photos taken week of Jan. 9th.

We are going to the OMNI in Cancun the first week of April (spring break) Does anyone know the condition there at the OMNI regarding the hotel and the beach? I keep looking online to see what the condition are after Wilma, but they are all advertisments about when they will “re-open”. I’m getting nervous.

Good question. Apparently, more details will be released on Jan 16th. I’ve been investigating but my emails go unanswered.

You ought to be OK at the Riu Caribe though, as the work will be taking place between Punta Cancún and Punta Nizuc. See this map.

Hi everyone! I’m headed to Cancun on January 14, 2006 at the Riu Caribe. I’ve very concerned about the “beach recovery” that is being started on January 16. I’ve seen in the past the mess “dredging” makes of the water and would hate to get to Cancun and discover cloudy murky water. Does anyone have any idea if they are anticipating any impact from this “recovery”?
