Miracle workers

March 7th, 2006 by Steve Bridger filed under Cancún Beach Recovery, Cancún, Photos

What a difference a few days make.

Looking south from the Cancun Palace - photo: Mel On Friday (March 3rd), the ‘view’ in front of the Cancún Palace was of waves licking at the hotel boundary wall (photo: Jim Wehrle).

Today, the transformation is nothing short of miraculous (see photo, right).

Bulldozers are today smoothing out the recycled sand in front of hotel Le Meridien (photo), the Golden Crown Paradise and Ritz Carlton (photo).

Special thanks to Mel Zelniker who took these photos earlier this afternoon along the stretch of Cancún’s beach known as Playa Ballenas.

Great photos and great updates. Thank you so much for all that you are doing to keep everyone informed!

The race is on to the Royal Sands!!! Who will win?? The "Jan de Nul" Miracle Workers, departing from the Ritz Carlton today… or the family and I, departing Toronto to arrive Friday at 1:00pm!! The competition will be fierce, but this is a race I don’t mind losing.

I would love to get identical "before" and "after" pictures of the beach at the Sands, but if I miss the "before" shot - trust me - I will NOT be disappointed!! Never did I imagine that they would reach the Sands by this weekend. Yahoo! I’m drinking margaritas already!

Sue - thank you. I should take this opportunity to thank all those who are sending me updates & allowing me to publish photos…

Thank you all so much for the beach updates! You are second to none. Without you we would be left in the dark.

Peter, we’ll be right behind you the following week at the Sands. It is so exciting to see how fast Jan de Nul is recovering the beaches. They are AWESOME. I guess after creating actual islands in the ocean over in Dubai, this was a cake walk! If you want to see before pics of the Sands let me know. I have plenty. I assume YOU could get the after pics. Just stand in the same place:)

So extremely informative - thank you SOOOO MUCH!

We just booked our 1st all inclusive vacation at the Barcelo Tucancun Beach - for April 25th. I am assuming now that the beach will be open then. Not really worrying, or should I??

  6. Steve Bridger Says:

Yes, Shari… you will have a beach. There may well be some beach palapas up by then, too. Back to normal.

The Tucancun is due to re-open on April 22nd. That date has been fixed for a while, so ought not to slip.
