What a difference a day makes…
24 hours later… Le Blanc now has a beach.
These guys sure work fast.
This stretch of the beach was wiped out by Hurricane Wilma. You can see what little remained in this photo taken just last week by Nancy McElroy, who is, alas, now back home in Michigan.

The front page of today’s Novedades newspaper in Cancun has an interesting article (in Spanish) about the sand tubes that will extend out 100 meters and have been put in between the Krystal and the Hyatt to protect the outlying reefs and to keep the new sand from being washed out toward the reefs.

I’m coming down Saturday. Anyone know if they will be past Bayview Grand by then? Keep up the great work!

Just a few lots further south of Le Blanc… this is what the beach in front of the Gran Caribe Real looked like on April 4th.

I’m planning a trip to Cancun probably in the last week of April. I’m wondering where I should stay….
I’ve stayed at Le Meridien last time I was there and loved it there. I’d definitely want to stay at a place where the beach has been restored.
Thanks!

Mel Zelniker reports… "Villas Marlin is doing a massive reconstruction of their beachfront. The ledge ['wall'] has reappeared in front of the Ritz Carlton and continues down as far as I could see. Meanwhile, Playa Ballenas remains ledge free. Nature works in mysterious ways." [Thanks, Mel]

Hi Jeff,
As you probably know (but for others’ benefit), the BVG condo-complex is 2 hotels up from the Sunset – right after the to-be-demolished Miramar Misión.
Yes, I would think that the beach recovery will reach you any day now…

Hi Steve,
What is the status of the Flamingo beach front? Have been trying to find beach pictures for this area but have been unsuccessful. You assistance is appreciated.

This photo was taken yesterday looking south from the Royal Sunset towards the Flamingo. You get the idea :)

Victor – the beach recovery will be complete by the time of your arrival, so that needn’t affect your choice of resort. You could check out the CancunCare forums…

Going to Crown Paradise in July for our first trip to Cancun. I’m a bit apprehensive because of weather last year.
Any comments whether I should be worried and any reports on Crown Paradise beach.

Taking the wife and kid back to Cancun end May/beg June. Planning a stay at either the Hilton or Le Meridien. Any word on the beaches at these resorts? What’s with the “second stage” of recovery at the Hilton?
